Q:  What is Soft Washing?

A: Pressure washers or power washers were designed and developed in the last century to BLAST AWAY dirt and grime off of a variety of surfaces. Since then some things have changed for the better.

Although high-pressure machines are still around and useful today when in the hands of professional and  skilled operators, a variety of Specialized Processes, Equipment & Techniques have been developed to create a process known as Soft Washing or Soft Wash. This process consists of applying a cleaning solution, letting the solution do its job and then rinsing away the unwanted material while using only LOW PRESSURE which is equivalent to that of a garden hose to insure the safe cleaning of your property.  Lichen, moss, mold, mildew, algae, road grime & dirt don’t stand a chance against Soft Washing.

Q:  Is Soft Washing safe for my siding & will it remove the black streaks on my roof?

Q:  What is the dark staining on my siding or roof?

A: Most likely its mold, mildew or algae, also known as Gloeocapsa magma which is a species of cyanobacteria This particular type of cyanobacteria is responsible for creating black stains and streaks on roofs. The bacteria accumulate over time as it feeds on moisture and calcium carbonate.This accumulation begins to show the black stains as the cyanobacteria develop their dark and hard UV-protective outer coating.

This type of bacteria will grow on just about everything such as concrete, vinyl siding, stucco,, glass, dryvit, EIFS, stone, bricks, wood, treated wood, vinyl fencing, just to name a few..

Q: Why is it spreading so fast?

A: The main reasons for the rapid spread and noticeability of these cyanobacteria are thought to be:

1. Rising humidity and temperatures combined with more and more bacteria spores promotes their spread with these favorable conditions.

2. Fiberglass shingles and Tiles (the most commonly seen amongst today's residential homes) are made or infused with limestone as a filler (in the asphalt or as an ingredient in the clay forming the tiles). The shingles especially hold moisture and organic "bacteria food" material longer (especially noticeable on the North-side of most roofs, siding, etc.) than the paper/asphalt/ceramic shingles of 20+ years ago. Additionally, these particular bacteria enjoy the limestone as a food source.

Once the bacteria becomes noticeable, the stains will continue to worsen year to year and, if left untreated, as the growth holds moisture within shingles, tiles, siding, etc. begins to cause premature aging, rotting, and/or granule loss
